Dr. Syed Kalbe Rushaid Rizvi

Social, Cultural Revolutionist & Islamic Scholar

Dr. Maulana Syed Kalbe Rushaid Rizvi is a name, personality, mission, a religious person, a social and cultural revolutionist, political dynamist, a reformer, thinker, and the personification of humanity and liberty. Dr. Maulana was an intellectual of his time, earning a special place among his peers and teachers through his dedication to studies. Imam Juma of the Khoja Masjid, Mahuwa, settled in his hometown of Mahuwa, Gujarat, with a population of 10,000 Khoja Shias. He pursued higher studies in Qum, Iran, where he was conferred Mohamaddan Law, authorized by Hazrat Ayatullah Gulpaigani. With the Amama on his head and responsibility on his shoulders, Dr. Maulana Kalbe Rushaid began preaching the teachings of Muhammad (S.A.W) and Ale Muhammad (A.S), marking the start of his era of tableegh. During his stay in The Reunion Island, France, he became the representative of Ayatollah Jawad Tabrezi. His long journey as a preacher and muballigh began in the Territorial Muslim Council, Madagascar, Africa, where he served as the Chief Spiritual Head of Shia Muslimin Tananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. He fulfilled his duties within and outside the council's jurisdiction, including in France, until 1999. His return to India didn’t end his Western preachings, as Dr. Maulana continued to travel to the UK, US, and various parts of Europe, spreading his message of love, peace, and humanity as taught by The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and his Infallibles Ahlulbait (A.S).

Gyani Pratap Singh Singh Sabha

Gurdwara, Pune

Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha is located on Maharana Pratap Road in Ganesh Peth and is managed by the Gurusingh Sabha Trust. The Singh Sabha Movement was a Sikh movement that began in Punjab in the 1870s, and the first Singh sabha was founded in 1873 in Amritsar. Sabhas were subsequently set up in different parts of India to revive the Sikh faith.

This gurudwara, originally built in the 1940s, has undergone periodic restorations and renovations, with multi-faith influences in its architectural style. The entrance to the gurudwara is through an ornate gateway with intricate inlay work that reflects a Mughal influence. The chattris (domes), oriel (a low window that does not touch the base of the building) windows, bracket-supported eaves (protrusion of the roof over the walls of a building), and ornamented friezes (a decorative band above the entrance) all display the influence of Rajput architecture. The outdoor surfaces have been decorated with techniques such as jaratkari (elaborate inlay work), plaster of Paris, tukri (inlay of coloured or mirror glass on gypsum plaster), fresco painting (painting on wet plaster), and pinjra (lattice work).

A tall flag post in the premises bears the Nishan Sahib, which is the triangular Sikh flag. The main building of the gurudwara consists of a Darbar Sahib where the Sikh scripture, Guru Granth Sahib, is placed on a takhat (an elevated throne) in a prominent central position. The ragis (who sing ragas) recite, sing, and explain the verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, in the presence of the congregation. The Darbar Sahib is a huge hall, well-lit with windows, and has a gallery to accommodate the large number of devotees and visitors.

The hall is designed to seat men on one side and women on the other, both at an equal distance from the Guru Granth Sahib as a sign of equality. Worshippers in the hall are offered Karah parshad (a sweet flour-and ghee-based offering), which is usually given into cupped hands by a sewadar (gurudwara volunteer). The Ik Onkar symbol that represents the one supreme reality, meaning 'God is one', is embossed on the ceiling of the hall in gold. Ik Onkar is the beginning of the Mul Mantar, which is the opening phrase of the Guru Granth Sahib.

In the langar (community kitchen), vegetarian food is cooked and served by volunteers from the community. People belonging to different faiths sit together to share a common meal. The gurudwara also has temporary accommodation (serais) for visitors or devotees. It serves as a community centre, library, meeting room for discourses, and also a learning centre.

Prayers begin every day with a recitation, called paath, consisting of passages or verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, from 4 am to 7 am. The first passage assigned for each day is known as ‘Hukum Nama’ (order of the day), which preaches ethical values. After this, the ardas prayer is sung in various ragas, followed by katha (religious discourse). The morning prayer ends with a shabad rendition by the ragis or kirtaniya. Evening prayer is performed similarly.

Pope Francis’ leadership has been defined by his focus on the poor and his call for the Church to be a "field hospital" for those in need. He has repeatedly criticized economic systems that foster inequality, calling poverty and exclusion among the greatest challenges of our time.

In 2015, he released Laudato Si', an encyclical that addressed climate change and environmental degradation, urging people and governments to take action to protect the planet. This document emphasized the moral obligation to care for the environment and the disproportionate impact of environmental destruction on the poor, solidifying his role as a global voice on environmental issues.

Pope Francis has also worked on reforming the Vatican, addressing financial corruption and increasing transparency. However, the challenge of addressing sexual abuse scandals within the Church has been a significant part of his tenure. Hon'ble Justice Dr. Madan Gosavi,

Hon’ble Shri Madan Bhalchandra Gosavi, born on July 14, 1958, in the village of Vaduj, Taluka Khatav, Maharashtra, has had an illustrious career in the Indian judiciary, marked by his profound knowledge, legal expertise, and commitment to justice. He began his education in his hometown and later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Shivaji University in 1982, specializing in English. He then pursued his legal studies at Mumbai University, where he obtained his LL.B. in 1984 and LL.M. in 2011, with a focus on Criminal Jurisprudence and Human Rights. His legal career commenced in 1991 when he was appointed as Civil Judge, Junior Division, and Judicial Magistrate First Class, during which time he dealt with numerous criminal matters and civil suits across Maharashtra until 2004.

From 2004 to 2013, Shri Gosavi served as Senior Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate, handling an array of civil suits, including those of a commercial nature with unlimited pecuniary jurisdiction. His ability to navigate complex legal issues earned him a nomination as Special CBI Judge in Mumbai from 2014 to 2017, where he presided over sensitive cases transferred from Gujarat to Maharashtra by the Supreme Court of India. His reputation for fairness and sound judgment in these high-profile cases further solidified his standing in the judiciary. Between 2017 and 2018, he was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Department of Law and Justice, Maharashtra.

In 2018, Shri Gosavi was selected as a Judicial Member of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) at the Kolkata Bench. During his tenure, he effectively managed a large backlog of cases, contributing significantly to the tribunal’s efficiency. In recognition of his expertise in corporate law, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code from Shri Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. His knowledge of insolvency law became particularly valuable when he was transferred to the Ahmedabad Bench of the NCLT in 2020. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown, Shri Gosavi continued to deliver justice, adjudicating numerous cases under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, and the Companies Act, 2013, through online platforms.

Dr. Karan Singh, born on March 9, 1931, is a prominent Indian politician, diplomat, and philosopher, whose career spans over six decades. The son of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruler of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, Karan Singh was appointed as the Prince Regent of the state in 1949 at the young age of 18. He later became the first Sadr-i-Riyasat and then the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, holding these key positions during crucial political transitions, including the controversial 1953 dismissal of the state's Prime Minister, Sheikh Abdullah.

Karan Singh played a significant role in Indian national politics as well. He joined the Union Cabinet in 1967, becoming the youngest Cabinet minister in India's history. He held important portfolios, including Tourism and Civil Aviation, Health, and Family Planning. His tenure is especially noted for his involvement in the abolition of princely privileges in 1971, which formally ended the special status and privileges enjoyed by India's erstwhile royalty.
