SESSION EXCERPTS
SESSION III - 2 OCT 2019
Religion and Religious Scriptures of the world as ‘True Life-guiding Scriptures'

Dr Satya Pal Singh

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:30 pm

The learned speaker started by explaining his take on what religions mean to humans and what is the very purpose of religious thought. He goes on to ask the audience whether humanity existed before the coming of the present great religions and if it did what was the bind which held it together. He postulated that religion is nothing but collected and collective wisdom that is necessary to steer humanity towards the stars. No religion states that its tenets or ideology are exclusively for the benefit of its adherents and that the strife religion engineers, is not due to the religion itself but its manipulation. He wishes for all humans to embrace good ideals from all religions.

Ms Jan Saeed

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:30 pm

Ms Saeed took a very pragmatic approach and asked what we could individually do for collective peace. She proposed to the audience that they turn to their neighbour and inform them of one thing that they will do to attain world peace. Afterwards she explained how difficult it is for even friends to come up with certain actions that they will perform for world peace. In a similar fashions, it is easy to pontificate about peace and difficult to do something to achieve it.

Shri Ronald C Gunnell

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:30 pm

the speaker spoke about his Mormon faith and how it has helped shape his life and the life of those around him. He understands how all suffering cannot end, but it can be made more bearable with the gifts of religion. He spoke of many parables from his scriptures to back this claim of his. He is a great proponent of religious freedom as well.

Dame Dr Prof Meher Master - Moos

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:30 pm

The lady started by reciting a prayer from her faith, Zoroastrianism, and then expounding on the founding principles of Zoroastrianism. She chose to elaborate on how she believes that peace can be achieved by being happy, and you can only be happy by aiding others in being happy.

Prof Norma Erekson

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:30 pm

The learned professor spoke passionately and academically about the Mormon religion and how it emphasises on peace and love for all mankind.

Dr Rajib Timalsina

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:30 pm

The speaker is convinced that the greatest cause of violence is the education system itself. Through teaching competition to children, it breeds in them a propensity to violence. He ponders on the meaning of the word ‘Dharma’ itself. He is from Nepal, where the first constitution was promulgated very recently, but it does not mean that Nepal did not have rules or regulations. That also existed. He learned of that through his visit to the temples and understanding his cultural enforcements. He agrees that religion serves a purpose beyond religion

Dr Ashok Vohra

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:00 pm

The speaker spoke at length about the meaning of the word Dharma, especially since it cannot directly be translated in the English language where its closest approximation is either duty or religion, but which does not serve to expound upon the true definition of the word. The speaker then spoke of Dharma’s definition from the perspective of Gandhi himself.

Dr Pradeep Wagh

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:00 pm

the speaker spoke of the link between science and philosophy as well as religion. He spoke of how it seems that both try to explain the same subjects. He goes on to quote multiple examples of the same.

Swami Dr Radhikananda Saraswati

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:00 pm

The speaker thanked Rev Prof Dr Vishwanath Karad for giving all religions a common platform. She further states that there is so much knowledge to be disseminated in the universe that it is almost impossible to do so within a single religion. Then she states that it is the study of all religions that must be undertaken and it is not at all a bad thing. She further states that to know the truth, it is imperative to go into the etymology of all words in religious scriptures.

Dr Monhammad Hanif Khan Shastri

Wednesday

04:30 pm - 06:00 pm

The learned doctor used his immense knowledge of the Vedas and the Quran to show the multiple similarities within both religions. He stated that it is only important to believe in God and then to do good deeds for oneself and those around us. Religions stress on similar issues and that must never be subverted for personal gains or ulterior motives.
