About City of Pune

Pune (short for Punyanagari) was the capital of the Peshwa rulers of Maharashtra. A culturally and intellectually vibrant city, Mahatma Gandhi called Pune 'as the beehive of dedicated workers for a noble cause'. Blessed with a pleasant climate and a dynamic population, Pune is a prominent educational centre and an industrial (mainly automobile) and IT hub.

 

Education & Culture :

Often referred to as the 'Oxford of the East', Pune attracts students from all over the world. Pune is a cultural centre and is always buzzing with activities including theatre, music, dance and film. Several religious and cultural festivals and a host of traditional and modern theatres dominate the city. Pune is known for the enthusiasm and splendour of its 'Ganesh festival'. The Sawai Gandharva classical music festival is an eagerly awaited event here.

Life Outdoors :

Pune city has several eateries serving local and other Indian delicacies along with five-star restaurants offering global cuisine. Shopping areas such as Laxmi Road, Camp and Deccan are forever flooded with shoppers from all over the world. The city has some interesting/ historical gardens.
